Safety Critical AI

AI systems are being deployed to critical areas of society. From analysing Electronic Health Records for improved diagnosis rates; to balancing power supply for energy grids. AI can help us achieve more and raise standards of living by being applied to areas of essential infrastructure.

This broad-scale deployment, however, is not without its risks. The malfunction or failure of autonomous systems within safety-critical infrastructures can result in serious consequences. Therefore, finding safe and responsible ways of integrating AI into these areas is of the utmost importance. This has been underscored by the Partnership on AI, led by Amazon, Google DeepMind, Apple, Facebook, IBM, and Microsoft, which has identified Safety-Critical AI as their highest priority.
